Preface One can identify in Bruno Di Pietro's artistic activity certain precise time periods that begin with the first period (from 1965 to 1970), the second up to 1985 with the third period linked to the "Legend of Troy". In the first two periods there are numerous subjects with a painting-slyle that is very personal and original in its technique and colour. His works of art are mainly oil paintings on canvas with a slapstick and graffito technique which elevates the painting towards a superior and more interesting level. He spaces, searches and erperiments, forwarding him also into dimensions difficult to critically define the acheives surrealist plates, stylistic images and composition with cuttings made of raw materials. Di Pietro is continually experimenting his style every time he comes into contact wilh foreign collectors and visits international exhibitions. We can consider these first two periods of artistic experimentation as the gestation moment of the third, that of the Legend of Troy, of the Iliade. Just as Homer had sung with his immortal verses "Achille Pelide's damaging wreath that inflicted infinite pains on the Achei" so Di Pietro imagines and materialises on canvas a surrealist painting with antique tones, greek heroes projected in the shields and in the horses' manes, with bronze spears and weapons, reins and crashing arms. He has dedicated 10 years of research and work for these epic scenes. Since 1986 he is composing a series of sculptures in bronze and marme, linked to the Iliade theme. |
